scarf

Ruth Gilbert - Weavings

I weave cloth for clothing, curtains and furnishing. Also, small items such as bags and scarves. Most of my work is in wool and silk, including handspun and custom dyed yarns.

Talks & Demonstrations

I can devise a talk - with demonstration if appropriate - to suit your group or class. Special interest areas include historical aspects - Viking, Tudor or Victorian woollen production for example - and cloth finishing.
I always provide yarn and cloth for handling.

Activity Sessions

Spinning, weaving or cloth finishing. Suitable for small groups of adults or children over 7 years, all ability levels.
Spinning in particular is appropriate for people with limited mobility.
Training workshops for teaching and museum staff or re-enactment groups.

Exhibitions

I am happy to exhibit solo or in mixed shows. Lengths of cloth work well with other craftwork or as a "sideshow" exhibition in foyers or other public places.

My work is on sale at Reclamations in Lavenham, Suffolk; Hitchcock's in Arlesford, Hampshire and Bath, Somerset; and the Cider Press Craft Gallery in Dartington, Devon; or is available direct from the workshop.Commissions welcome. Telephone 01484 843879 or e-mail me for more details
